Class Descriptions

  • Derived from the traditionally called Mysore style Ashtanga, this method of studying yoga asana is tailored to the individual's needs. Postures are taught one by one in a quiet room through individual instruction from a skilled teacher. The practice is taught gradually and according to each person’s needs and abilities.

Our Shala honors the lineage of Ashtanga Yoga as taught by Paramaguru Sri R. Sharath Jois. Bibi Lorezetti is a direct student of Guruji and dedicated to honoring his teachings, and life dedication to the practice.

Excellent For Beginners: Come observe or take a class during designated hours and speak to our teachers about initiating practice.

  • Taking from the Primary and Intermediate series of Ashtanga Yoga, we will practice two types of sun salutations, standing postures, a combination of postures from the Ashtanga Primary and Intermediate series, finishing postures, and basic pranayama practice. It is suitable for all levels, including those who are interested in an abbreviated practice or those who are looking to develop a regular daily routine.

Vinyasa students are welcome. No Ashtanga experience necessary. Previous experience with asana practice is required. Class is 70 minutes.

  • Our signature Newburgh Yoga Shala Vinyasa classes are structured to feel like a moving meditation: asanas mindfully threaded together by breath. Influenced by the lineage of Ashtanga Yoga, each class includes a gentle warm up, sun salutations, standing & seated postures, inversions, backbends, final relaxation and guided meditation. You can expect a balanced, rigorous, and clearly delivered experience. This class will leave you feeling rejuvenated and grounded within yourself. Previous experience with asana practice is required.Description text goes here

  • Vinyasa Yin: You can expect to spend the first 20 minutes moving (raising Yang) and building heat to warm the body, soften the mind and expend any restless energy. Then we will transition into a series of seated, supine, and side-lying postures (settling Yin) for a more restorative experience. We'll hold each Yin posture for 3-5 minutes, using breath techniques from our Vinyasa classes (Ujjayi breath) to access more depth, volume, and space within the asanas. Yin yoga is a wonderful complement to more active, vigorous practices such as Ashtanga or Vinyasa yoga, as it is designed to regulate the nervous system, stimulate various meridians or nadis (energy pathways) along the body, as well as prepare the body and mind for meditation and/or deep rest.

Vinyasa Restorative: Our signature Newburgh Yoga Shala Vinyasa class paired with a restorative ending.

  • We offer daily meditations 6 days a week. These sessions are accessible to all, regardless of experience level. If you are interested in deepening or establishing a meditation practice, this program provides different lineages of practice and a community to hold you accountable as you navigate your journey.

Sessions are 45 minutes long and include a short philosophy portion, a 20 minute sit, and a few minutes for discussion.

  • A profound practice sourced from the Rig Veda which includes: setting a Saṅkalpa (an intention), Prāṇāyāma, and  Gāyatrī mantra japa (repetition of mantra). To join this practice please email us here with instruction.

  • Join Bibi Lorenzetti and Angela Hassan for a weekly Bhakti practice. The Hanuman Chalisa is a powerful 40 verse poem of love and devotion written by Tulsidas and recited by devotees all over the world.

We chant the Chalisa to learn about and cultivate devotion, gain strength and courage, gain clarity to remove the obstacles on our path and align with Dharma.

    Donating to different organizations monthly.
