Kirtan At The Shala

At Newburgh Yoga Shala, we believe the practice of Yoga extends far beyond the physical mat. One of the most profound paths to self-realization is Bhakti Yoga—the yoga of devotion and heart-centered connection. The centerpiece of this path is Kirtan, a communal practice of call-and-response chanting that uses sacred mantas to quiet the mind and crack open the heart.

Our Kirtan gatherings are deeply rooted in the lineage of Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaj-ji). Carrying this flame into the modern world is Krishna Das, whose soulful chanting has paved the way for a global community of practitioners seeking refuge in the Divine Name.

We are profoundly honored to hold space for world-renowned chanters and local devotionals alike. Our Shala regularly hosts Nina Rao, whose traditional Vedic chanting and deep connection to the lineage offer a powerful grounding force, alongside the soulful cello and vocals of Noah Hoffeld and the master percussion of Arjun Bruggeman.

The spirit of Bhakti continues through our beloved local collective, including the devotional leadership of Alex Tse and Angela Hassan, the transformative Shakti Pad experiences with Rev. Leslie Kim of Ananda Ashram, and the sacred offerings of Priestess Jenni Shanti.

Whether you are a seasoned chanter or hearing these sounds for the first time, Kirtan requires no musical "skill"—only a willing heart. Come join our Satsanga as we lift our collective voice to find steady ground in the company of Truth.
