WHO WE ARE
Newburgh Yoga Shala, home to the lineage of Ashtanga Yoga in the Hudson Valley, offers a sanctuary for authentic practice, specializing in Mysore-style Ashtanga, Jivamukti, Vinyasa, Vajra, and Yin Yoga. Rooted in tradition, our Vinyasa classes are shaped by the Ashtanga lineage, focusing on breath regulation and the steady cultivation of a resilient mind and body. Beyond asana, we offer Beginners Yoga Courses, meditation, and specialized workshops designed to support a healthy body and thriving spirit.
Our space is a vessel for yoga as a lifestyle, brought to life by the most qualified teachers in the Hudson Valley who lead with expertise and a heart for service. Dedicated to classical studies and the joy of community, we extend our practice beyond the mat through community engagement and outreach, striving to make the world a better place one breath at a time.
Our mission is to honor and preserve traditional yoga practices by offering authentic, lineage-based classes that deepen your connection to self.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Founded in 2022, Newburgh Yoga Shala is a woman-owned small business dedicated to bringing traditional yoga to the Hudson Valley. Under the ownership of Bibi Lorenzetti—a teacher with over a decade of experience and the formal blessing of her Guru, Sri R. Sharath Jois—the Shala serves as a home for lineage and a vessel for authentic traditional practice in Newburgh. Beyond the daily schedule, Bibi’s vision weaves the philosophy of yoga into the local fabric through outreach and Vedic study, creating a sanctuary where tradition meets modern community life.
You can view Bibi's full biography for details on her lineage and certifications. Through the vessel of Newburgh Yoga Shala, Bibi hopes to expand Yoga past it’s physical walls into the fabric of the community, offering not only daily classes but also having an important role in our community engagement through outreach practices.
YOGA AT THE SHALA
At Newburgh Yoga Shala, we offer a rich blend of traditional yoga practices. Whether you're a beginner or looking to deepen your practice, our classes are designed to guide you on your journey. Join our regular classes, enroll in training, or participate in our upcoming retreats to experience authentic, lineage-based yoga in Newburgh.
Our philosophy is rooted in the eight limbs of Yoga, a holistic path encompassing ethical codes (yama), personal observances (niyama), posture (asana), breath control (pranayama), pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses), dharana (sustained concentration)and the inward journey toward meditation (dhyana) and unity (samadhi).
We begin our work with asana as a vital foundation to establish physical health. Once the body is vibrant, we move progressively toward the nervous system and the rebalancing of the subtle internal functions of the body. Through this holistic approach, we steady, clear, and peacify the mind.
At the Shala we believe true transformation and healing are found in the power of repetition. By repeatedly showing up to the mat, you revitalize the body at every level, progressing from physical purification to mental clarity. Whether you are joining our regular classes, enrolling in teacher training, or escaping on one of our upcoming retreats, you are entering a community dedicated to sharing yoga as a holistic path to unity and well-being.
“To learn how to achieve concentration the body must first be purified and then mental strength developed. The method for purifying and strengthening the body is called āsana” from” From ‘Yoga Mala’.
