The Eight Limbs of Yoga
A workshop with Bibi Lorenzetti
Friday, December 4 · 5:00pm · via Zoom

Patanjali gave us more than a philosophy — he gave us a path. The eight limbs of yoga, laid out in the Yoga Sūtras, move from how we relate to the world and to ourselves, through the body and breath, and inward toward stillness and insight. Together, they form a complete roadmap for living — not just for what happens on the mat.

In this workshop, we’ll go beneath the familiar list of Sanskrit terms to explore what each limb actually means — in depth, in context, and in practice. We’ll trace how these principles show up in the Bhagavad Gītā, where Krishna’s teaching to Arjuna gives the limbs their living, human dimension, and we’ll look at how they show up in our own practice and daily life, on and off the cushion.

This is an experiential gathering, not a lecture. Come prepared: before we meet, you’ll be asked to sit with these concepts and reflect on where they already show up in your life, so we have real material to bring into the room together.

In our time together, we will:

  • Explore the eight limbs in depth — their meaning, their order, and their interrelationship

  • Trace their presence in the Bhagavad Gītā

  • Chant the sūtras together

  • Sit in group discussion, sharing reflections and questions

  • Practice a seated meditation to feel these principles directly, not just think about them

You’ll walk away with an experiential understanding of the eight limbs — a felt sense of this path, not just an intellectual one, and language for recognizing it as it moves through your own practice and life.

Preparation materials will be shared ahead of time. No prior study required — just a willingness to reflect and sit with the questions.
