An introduction to Shanti Mantras with Nina Rao
During our time together we will talk about and chant two mantras commonly practiced in our yoga community. These mantras are also close to Nina’s heart as they foster a sense of well-being and inter-connectedness.
Śaṃ no mitraḥ – śānti mantra
This beautiful mantra is intended to align us with the cosmic forces as we move through our day. We will share this mantra the way Nina has learned it from her veda teacher from the Mysore tradition with time spent on proper pronunciation, tone, and rhythm.
Lokāḥ Samastāḥ Sukhino Bhavantu
This is not specifically a veda mantra but is chanted all around the world and common amongst the people and yoga practictioners. Nina likes to think of chanting this mantra at the end of ones practice as a way to offer back to all beings the merit of the practice.
We will sing this mantra in a musical way together as a group to enhance that place of peace where we all wish to rest.
