1. What does yoga mean to you?
To me yoga is balance. It’s the balance between strength and flexibility physically. It is also the balance of mind and body, mixing who we are inside and bringing that to the outside world. It’s also the perfect balance of a great physical workout with relaxation and mental calm. And it keeps me coming back to it every day.
2. What drew you to the Shala and why did you stick around?
I am fairly new to yoga and it is not something that comes naturally to me, so I when I was looking for a studio, I wanted a place where could grow and learn and never feel behind or not strong or flexible enough for the classes. At the Shala I found exactly that, teachers who want you to get better and stronger each class and who will always offer help and encouragement . Every class and every teacher offered welcoming and supportive energy which makes you want to come back. I’ve learned a lot at the Shala, not just the physical asana but breath work and meditation and how to incorporate yoga into my everyday life.
3. What's one piece of advice you'd give someone new to yoga?
Yoga is hard, but it is so worth it. Every day, every class you take will make it easier and you will thank yourself for it. It has led more confidence and strength in myself and it is something I would encourage anyone to try.
4. What's a fun random fact about you (not necessarily yoga related)?
I am an avid hiker. I have a goal to hike the highest peak of each state. I started this goal in last year and have hiked 8 peaks so far. This year I plan to hike another 6. I’m usually hiking around the Hudson valley and in the Catskills and have great recommendations for anyone looking to go!
