The Yoga of Meditation
This month at Newburgh Yoga Shala we explored Chapter 6 of the Bhagavad Gita as a way to honor the passing of SharathJi, who was a living example of all the concepts explored in conversation between Krishna and Arjuna.
In this chapter Krishna explains to Arjuna how to achieve evenness of mind and tranquility through meditation and self-control; the role of action in preparing for meditation; and how performing our everyday duties with devotion can purify the mind and increase spiritual awareness.
Here are two verses to sit with and keep cultivating at the Shala:
"Take responsibility for yourself. You have created your present situation. You can redeem yourself through knowledge and the right effort" Verse 5
"For those who have conquered the mind, it is their friend. For those who have failed to do so, the mind works like an enemy" Verse 6
We hope you enjoyed this month’s Explorations, feel free to leave a comment below! Here is a nice listen on the Bhagavad Gita by Ram Das.
